Margus Leivo, Director for Facilities of Tallinn University of Technology, and former Minister of the Interior, passed away
On the evening of August 21, Margus Leivo, a long-term Director for Facilities at Tallinn University of Technology, honorary member of the University and former Minister of the Interior, has passed away (28. V 1954 - 21. VIII 2019). The memorial service will be on Saturday, August 31 at 12 noon at the Assembly Hall of Tallinn University of Technology (Ehitajate tee 5).
After the service, the funeral will take place at Metsakalmistu.
Margus Leivo will be remembered by Tallinn University of Technology community as one of the pillars of the University's development and a valued colleague. The former colleagues of the Ministry of the Interior will remember Margus Leivo as an active and enterprising leader.
Margus Leivo was born on May 28, 1954 in Räpina, graduated from Räpina Secondary School in 1972 and in 1982 from Tallinn University of Technology in Industrial and Civil Engineering.
From the beginning of the restoration of Estonian independence, he served the country in several respected positions: Põlva County Governor (1990-1993), Secretary General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (1993-1999), Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (1999-2002), Minister of the Interior (2003-2005), member of the Parliament (2005-2007). Since 2007, Leivo has been the Director for Facilities of Tallinn University of Technology and in 2015 was also appointed as an Honorary Member of the University.
