Tallinn University of Technology is the most international university in Estonia
This year nearly 500 students from foreign countries commenced their studies at Tallinn University of Technology (TTÜ), which means that TTÜ is continuously the most international university in Estonia, as reported in the recently published statistics of the Estonian Education Information System (EHIS).
The most popular fields of study among this year´s applicants were Integrated Engineering, International Business Administration, Industrial Engineering and Management and various IT fields.
More than 11,000 students are studying at Tallinn University of Technology. Foreign students constitute more than 13 % of the students of the university. Of all the foreign students studying at Estonian universities 35% are studying at Tallinn University of Technology.
"Knowledge of the quality of education provided at our university has spread across borders. The fact that students from several dozens of countries choose Tallinn University of Technology for studying shows that education acquired here is recognised at international level and reliable," Vice-Rector of TTÜ Jakob Kübarsepp said. "The updated curricula and the reformed university will definitely improve the quality of education and enhance our international competitiveness even more. We have set an ambitious goal to become one of the best universities of technology in the Nordic countries."
Most of the foreign students applied for TTÜ master's studies, whereto 242 international students were admitted. These were followed by bachelor's studies with 215 and doctoral studies with 26 foreign students.
The biggest number of students applying to Tallinn University of Technology come from Finland and Georgia. Between 2007- 2016, foreign students from nearly a hundred different countries came to study at Tallinn University of Technology. TTÜ's international outreach extends every year, e.g. this autumn students also from Kyrgyzstan and Montenegro commenced their studies at the university.
In the last five years the number of visiting students from foreign countries has doubled as well - these are exchange students who come to the university for one or two semesters. The students from the universities of Germany, France or Spain often come to Tallinn University of Technology to develop themselves at the School of Business and Governance or the School of Information Technologies, the fields of mechanical engineering are popular as well. Non-resident visiting students come to Tallinn University of Technology most often in the framework of the Erasmus+ programme.
Tallinn University of Technology is a modern university of engineering and technology, the strength of which lies in the synergy of engineering, natural, exact, social and health sciences. Teaching is based on internationally recognised research work and the graduates are highly rated on the labour market. TTÜ is a motor of economic development in Estonia; the nearly 70,000 alumni of the university have shaped the economic landscape of today's Estonia. The university has 700 lecturers and more than half a thousand research staff. The TTÜ campus, which is situated on more than 50 ha, includes 72 buildings and accommodates more than 200 high-tech companies. The students are offered superb student and cultural life; the accommodation and sporting facilities are one of the best in the Baltic Sea Region. TTÜ´s history dates back to 1918.
